Happier Times Ahead at Sea World for Orphaned Seal Jabulani. (17 October, 1996)

Durban - An orphan seal which was discovered recently starving and alone on the Eastern Cape coastline has found a new home at Sea World here. Jabulani (Zulu for happiness) was rescued two months ago by Glyn McGee, PRO of the Mpekweni Sun holiday resort between East London and Port Elizabeth.

Ms McGee said she first spotted the seal lying on a beach while she was shepherding children on an outing. Although the seal seemed content and unconcerned about her presence, she noticed that the young seal was still lying in the same spot two days later. Ms McGee said she and a friend took it back to the resort, later handing it over to oceanarium staff in East London. The young seal was transferred to Sea World in Durban to start training as a performing animal, hopefully making its debut in December. Own correspondent. Courtesy of the Pretoria News.
